Although specifications matter more than the looks in a smartphone to be called 'smart' , nobody would care if you own a 1,000$ smartphone or a 100$ smartphone if the design looks plainly dull. As the first impression is the last, prove your decisions right by going through phones that offer a good look along with good specifications.

Now this is the aspect you should be most concerned about. Looks and build don't matter much when you can't use your smartphone with as much ease as you want. Good specifications equals good performance, so keep an eye out for them. Here are some things you can look for in a smartphone's specs in order to know if it is good:

Display - A smartphone having a 4.5 inch or higher display screen with more than 250 ppi pixels density can be considered as a good one. Still you will have to take a look at the screen type, resolution and vividness of colors yourself. 

Processor - Anything more or equal to a quad-core processor can provide your smartphone a smooth speed to operate on.

Camera - This entirely depends on your need. However a primary camera starting from 8 MP and a secondary camera starting from 1 MP can prove to be a decent enough equipment. 

Battery - If you are an average smartphone user, a smartphone with its battery marked at 2000 mAh or more can provide enough juice for a day's work.

Operating System - You should check if the smartphone runs on the latest version of OS or not.

Choose the top three smartphones that fall into your price range and start comparing their specs. If you've got a winner, take it home! If you haven't, check which phone has got a better processor and set your heart on it (by this time you would have already given a thought about it).
