At the price of just $29, Microsoft's 'perfect second phone', the Nokia 215 was unveiled on the 5th of January, 2015. The 'dumphone' (please read not-smart) cannot load new applications but comes pre-loaded with Facebook, Twitter, Opera Mini browser and Microsoft's  Bing search engine. However, the main feature of the phone is that its battery can last a month without charging!


The Nokia 215 has very low specs- 2.4 inch colour screen with 320x240 166.67 PPI pixel display, a 0.3 MP VGA camera and a space for a 32 GB microSD card. The phone comes in two versions- Single as well as Dual SIM support. The Single SIM has a standby time of 29 days whereas the Dual SIM offers a standby time of 21 days. The handset has Bluetooth, torchlight, MP3 player and a FM Radio. It is developed for more difficult terrains and is expected to go on sale in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe in the first quarter of 2015. We wonder when it will be available in Nepalese outlets. 

The new Huawei Gplay mini was released this week by Huawei at the price of NPR 19,999. This Huawei smartphone is solidly built and can be considered a good buy after viewing its specifications and features.


The Huawei Gplay mini comes with a 5 inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels (~ 293 ppi pixel density). Due to the closely packed pixels on this phone, the colors can be seen bright and vivid. For people who are looking for smartphones with crisp display, this phone should definitely go on your list! However, the screen has no protection on it.
Furthermore, the Huawei Gplay mini has an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor alongside 2 GB of RAM for excellent processing speed and a Kirin 620 chipset has been used as its chipset. With hardware like these, you can rely on having the best gaming experience. Also, the phone has a memory of 8 GB which can be expanded up to 32 GB. Similarly, the phone operates on an Android v4.4 OS and has its own UI, the EMUI 3.0.

Looking into its cameras, the Huawei Gplay mini is equipped with a 13 MP primary camera with LED flash and a 5 MP secondary camera. For all the people who love taking 'selfies', this phone will not disappoint you. This dual SIM smartphone is powered by a Li-Ion 2550 mAh battery which provides enough juice for a day's work.

Intex has released its new smartphone in Nepal, the Intex Aqua Star II at the price of NPR 12,999. The dual-SIM Intex smartphone can surely be the right gadget for someone looking for a decent phone to buy in this price range.


The Intex Aqua Star II comes with a 5 inch IPS full lamination display having a resolution of 480x854 pixels (~ 196 ppi pixel density). The colors on this phone lacks sharpness and is only good for viewing standard-definition pictures.
The Intex Aqua Star II has many specs similar to the Intex Aqua Star except for a few like the CPU which is a 1.2 GHz spreadtrum SC7731 processor and unlike the Aqua star, the phone operates on an Android OS, v 4.4 (KitKat). Other specs of the phones is that it comes with a 1 GB RAM and 8 GB ROM (expandable upto 32 GB).

The camera on this phone is however an upgrade from the Intex Aqua Star. It is equipped with a 8 MP primary camera with LED-flash and a 5 MP secondary camera. People who need a good phone to click 'selfies' can consider this phone to be a good buy for the price range it falls onto.

Also, the smartphone comes with a battery of 2000 mAh which can provide 250 hours of standby time which is quite good.

The Panasonic P55 has been officially released in Nepal at the price of just Rs. 16,429. The authorized distributor of Panasonic smartphones in Nepal, Allied Trade Link Int'l P. Ltd. had unveiled it on the 19th of February with high hopes for it to do well in the Nepalese market.

Samsung has released its new smartphone in Nepal from the Samsung Galaxy E series, the Samsung Galaxy E7 at the price of NPR 30,850. The android smartphone is solidly built and is packed with stunning features and high-end specifications.

The Samsung Galaxy E7 sports a stylish look alongside a 5.5 inch super AMOLED capacitive display touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (~267 ppi pixel density). The vividness of the colors of this phone is very impressive and will not let you down while viewing an HD picture or an HD video.

Talking about its processors, the smartphone uses a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 as its CPU and an Adreno 306 as its GPU. Also, a qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 is used as its chipset. Although the phone uses mid-range processors, it has a very swift processing speed and can provide a lag-free gaming experience too.

Face detection, panaroma, etc. are some of the features the phone provides for clicking photos and the smartphone can film videos of 1080p@30 fps. The camera is quite good and can shoot stunning pictures as well as videos.

Intex Aqua Speed is a well-built smartphone from Intex that is packed with amazing features and specifications. The smartphone is available in Nepal at the price of NPR 14,999.

The Samsung Galaxy J1 is a smartphone from Samsung with rather noticeable features and quality specs especially given the price range it falls within. Its price is currently marked at Rs.10,950 in Nepal.


The Samsung Galaxy J1 comes with a 4.3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels ( ~217 ppi pixel density). The display vividness is less in comparison to other Samsung products but looking at the price it falls into, it is quite appreciable.

Along with a dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 as its CPU, the smartphone has 512 MB of RAM for average performance. Also, the Samsung Galaxy J1 has Mali-490 as its GPU and a spreadtrum chipset. However, due to processors like these, the phone is not quite able to provide a lag-free experience while playing high-end games but can perform fairly smooth while using other applications. Furthermore, the phone runs on an Android O.S, v4.4.4 (KitKat).


Moving on to its camera, the Samsung Galaxy J1 comes with a 5 MP primary camera with LED-flash and a 2 MP secondary camera. The phone provides features like geo-tagging, touch focus and face detection for clicking better photos. Also, the phone can film 720p videos at 30 fps. Overall, the camera of this phone shoots pretty average and may not be the best choice for people who use a smartphone to click pictures.

Furthermore, the Samsung Galaxy J1 doesn't have a long lasting battery life due to its low ampere battery i.e. a Li-Ion 1850 mAh.

The phone also has 1 GB of RAM and as an overall, it may fail to provide a lag-free experience while running some high-end game but it does provide a smooth interface for using apps that don't need much processing speed.

Powered by a Li-Po 2000 mAh battery, the Panasonic Eluga I can provide just enough juice (over a single complete charge) for a day's work and like other smartphones, it comes with sensors like proximity and accelerometer. In comparison to other phones falling in the same price range, the Panasonic Eluga I can be regarded as a good phone to own but is not quite the best buy.
